From glancing at Mafia's code, it checks if you are in hardcore and if the item cannot be equipped in hardcore, then it simply checks you stats against the stat requirement. Slyz 17:05, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

As of some time ago, evidently the code now checks for correct familiar type, Torso, Fistcore, and Axecore. However, it doesn't look like it takes hand/hatrack/scarecrow into account. --Heeheehee 15:34, 25 August 2012 (EDT)
